Han River DNA, A Batter Place and A New Way
한강 DNA, 더 나은 장소와 새로운 길
한강르네상스 사업을 계기로 한강의 DNA는 분명 다양한 가치로 풍부해졌다. 80년대 치수위주의 개발 사업으로 등한시 되었던 한강의 환경적 가치가 재조명되고 수변공간의 활용성 측면에서 다양한 밑그림이 재시되었으며 현재 실현되고 있는 중이다. 이와 함께 국제금융 특별지구로 지정된 여의도의 국제여객선터미널은 다가오는 해양시대를 맞이하여 다시 찾은 한강의 가치를 세계인과 함께 공유할 수 있도록 만드는 교두보 역할을 할 것으로 기대한다.

터미널은 서해뱃길과 연계하여 중국, 일본의 주요도시와 동남아 주요 연안도시로부터 관광객을 실어 나르게 될 5000t급 국제관광선의 계류가 가능하다. 2016년 용산 국제여객선 터미널 완공 뒤 여의도 여객선총합터미널은 국내 연안 여객선터미널 전용으로 사용될 것이며 터미널 배후시설로서 수상호텔 및 상업시설로 가능하게 될 것이다.
Passenger can hold 5000-ton international cruise ships which sail to China, Japan and also to Southeast coastal area via West waterways.
After the complete construction of Yongsan International Passenger Terminal in 2016, Yeouido International Passenger Terminal will be used for domestic off-shore trade and the space behind the terminal will be used for floating hotel and commercial facilities.
Flowing Space 흐름이 스며든 공간
여의도 종합여객터미널은 사상 초유의 대규모 단일 수상 건축물이라는 기술적 난제를 포함하고 있어 상부 구조체의 정형화된 대칭적 공간구조를 안고 갈 수밖에 없었다. 이는 상부체하중을 지탱함과 동시에 시시각각 변하는 수상의 역학적 요소에 대응하기 위하여 최대한 안전성을 고려할 수밖에 없는 하부체의 특수성을 우선 감안한 결과이기도 하다.
국제적으로 다양한 관광객들이 많이 모이는 사이트의 특성상 도시경관의 일편이 무미건조하게 인식되는 것을 지양하고자 했다. 따라서 단순 거대한 구조물이 될 수도 있는 공간에 변화미를 주기 위하여 몇 가지 모티브를 차용하게 되었다.
객실 외벽에 설치된 수직루버는 하나하나의 연결점이 좌표를 달리하며 나룻배 노의 유려한 운동 궤적을 표현한다. 이는 관찰자의 시점과 태양의 고도에 따라 더욱 활기차게 리듬감을 표현하며 마치 옛날 한강의 풍경을 수놓던 나룻배의 움직임을 떠올리게 할 것이다. 외부인에게 공개되는 옥상 전망대에는 한강의 독특한 선형이 천장에 투영되어 하늘에서는 또 하나의 한강이 관찰될 것이다. 이로 인해 건축물에 한강의 모습이 그대로 각인된 형상으로 보여지며 낯에는 하늘빛으로 물든 구름 강이, 저녁에는 다양한 칼라를 연출하는 LED빛의 강이 흐르는 색다른 풍경을 연출하게 된다.
Yeouido International Passenger Terminal is the first massive floating architecture and consequently, the plan faced technical difficulties. There have been several safety considerations to keep the structure stable and as a result, the upper structure features two symmetrical spaces for its load balancing as well as to correspond to the dynamics of water flow.
As a lot of tourist will visit the terminal building, the design attempted to avoid creating another insipid urban landscape. Accordingly, several design motivation theories have been established which can add beauty, functionality to space.
The exterior wall comprises a vertically oriented louver which looks just like an elegant fluid motion. According to the change of observer’s point of view and the altitude of the sun, the vertical louvers express lively sense of rhythm and the tranquil movement of ferry on Han River in old days. Rooftop observation deck will be open to the public. As the river projected on a unique linear skylight, another river in the sky will be observed. As a result, the building looks as it carved in the shape of the Han River. In the daytime, sky blud clouds reflect on the river. In the evening, a variety colour of LED light flow through a stream and both create an exotic atmosphere.
