깨끗한 불교 정신의 상징 ‘연꽃’, 깨달음을 얻기 위한 불교 교리 ‘팔(八)정도’, 존재의 근원에 관한 불교의 가르침 ‘공(空)사상’, 세가지 키워드에서 봉원사의 디자인 개념을 구축했고, 매스의 형태는 팔정도의 의미를 담은 여덟 개의 꽃잎이 매스의 중심, 즉, 근원을 둘러싸며, 활짝 핀 연꽃을 연상시킨다.
The design concept of Bongwonsa Temple was constructed from three keywords: the clean Buddhist spirit’s symbol ‘Lotus’, Buddhist doctrine ‘Eight Degree’ to gain enlightenment, and the Buddhist teaching ‘Gong Idea’ on the source of existence. The shape of the mass is like eight petals surrounding the center of the mass, that is, the source, and reminds us of a blooming lotus flower.
